The President

Romano Massa, President of the Tourist Association Pro Loco Uta, in office since 2000, during this period, assisted by the members, has worked for improving the image of the Pro Loco after the unhappy months in which, some years ago, was managed by an external superintendent. It was not a simple task, because it calls for dedication and courage, but however the President with his collaborators have decided to deal with it all together. Therefore, the President has revived the spirit of the association, organizing numerous initiatives directed to the development of the territory, to the rediscovery of its tradition, dresses and folklore; the last one has become the primary activity of the Pro Loco Uta.

It has to be remembered that Uta is not only a small town with deep-rooted agricultural traditions, but also a town that deserves to be known because of the presence of an architectural jewel: the Romanic shrine of Santa Maria.
So, to bring out this stately and imposing splendour, it has been chosen as scenery for one of the biggest and most complete regional folk events: “Ballus” (thought up and created by the President in 2001).

Ballus, exhibition of international folklore, is not only a simple summer entertainment, but it has the big merit of promoting tourist, craftsmanlike and agro-alimentary sectors, of stimulating local economy, of bringing out the artistic and monumental heritage of the town. It obviously aims to encourage the reciprocal acquaintance between different realities, the defence of cultural roots, the acceptance of the diversities and a policy for the peace between all the populations.

Another merit of our President is the Pro Loco’s folk group, directed by him. Its main objective is the faithful reconstruction of the town’s traditional dress and the reproposition, during its performances, of the characteristic dances of Cagliari’s Campidano and of Uta with a more austere and professional style. Moreover, participating with the folk group to numerous events in the whole Sardinia, in the peninsula and abroad makes possible to realize another objective, that is to say the divulgation of the cultural and traditional knowledge.

At last, in addition to these engagements, it is added a new and important task; in fact, on May 2008, he has taken part , with the majority of the vows, in the UNPLI executive of Cagliari’s Province.
On June 4, 2008, the members of executive reunited in meeting have appointed him UNPLI President for the Province of Cagliari, confirming the will expressed by the voters during the provincial elective meeting.
On the same occasion the executive has elected him member of the Regional Committee for the four years 2008-2012.

The Bodies of directors and all the members of the Pro Loco are satisfied and hopeful that everything can goes on and improves in the future because of those reasons and because of other ones not cited.

The Bodies of directors and the members of the Pro Loco Uta

“I thank all the members and above all I thank them because of the trust that they have shown to me during the last elections, bearing out to me, through a high number of votes, to appreciate the work done in the last seven years.
Representing the Pro Loco is for me a reason of big pride; the activity to which we (me, the Bodies of directors and the members) have submit ourselves is exhausting and infinite, but it is what we expected and what we were ready to face.
Discussions, acceptance of the critics and some failure are integral part of a president’s life, but who believes in what he does, has always to remember that is necessary to be optimist for the success of every project.
Our aim is to make known our interesting town, rich of history, culture and traditions, but also to make known its splendid nature through our mountains and hills.”

“Another important project in which we have trust is the –Servizio Civile Nazionale- that offers to some boys and girls between 18 and 28 the opportunity to dedicate a year of their life to an educative and formative project that surely enriches their culture, creating, in some cases, job opportunities”.

“It is necessary to be abreast of the times and to be able to keep themselves up to date”.

“It is necessary to be abreast of the times and to be able to keep themselves up to date”. It is exactly from this phrase that is born the idea to create a website to give to everyone the possibility to know our country reality. Because of that, we have started a long and meticulous research work, aimed to the finding of information about Uta; we have looked up books and historic archives, but what above all have been essential are the testimonies and the stories of the elderly, collected through a research in the field.

“Closing my short preamble, I take the opportunity to thank warmly all the people that, supporting me through their participation and helping me through their excellent work, have collaborate and go on collaborating to the realization of this important initiative. thankyou to the following old persons for the information and the testimonies about the past: Casula AngelaCossu LiviaLoche LetiziaMeloni IsidoraNonnis MariucciaPalmas RitaPili GuglielmaPorcu DemetriaPorcu ZitaSanna Antonio and Scalas Nemesi. A thank you to the volunteers of the “Servizio Civile Nazionale” of the Pro Loco Uta: Casula Emanuela, Foddis MichelaMua Claudia e Spanu Maria Cristina.

Thank you to everyone who will want to go on with us towards the future”. Hoping to have been exhaustive in our exposition, to have created something useful for everyone wants to know Uta, and trustful to have kindled the curiosity in everyone of you, we wait for you in Uta to propose to you amusement moments, relaxation, history, traditions and culture! Hope

Finally, I take the opportunity to thank the Pro Loco of the Province of Cagliari that have supported me during the elective elections and the elected Board of Directors that has shown its trust entrusting the Presidency of UNPLI (Union of Italy’s Pro Loco) for Cagliari’s Province to me.

GO ON LIKE THIS: SATISFIED AND ABOVE ALL TOGETHER!!
